La Grande Savonnerie

A corporate typeface design for the visual identity of La Grande savonnerie, a traditional soap factory in Marseille.

A young team of Marseille-based entrepreneurs decided in 2015 to take up the name of a famous Marseille soap factory of the 19th century: La Grande savonnerie. It wanted to include in its visual identity a historical background, and also to demonstrate its regard for high quality production. We proposed to them the design of a typeface based on different historical characters of the Belle Epoque, and in particular Deberny & Peignotís Giraldon.

Two styles have been developed, with the aim of precisely meeting the needs of usage, Regular and Medium. Medium is a version with small capitals and whose capitals are arranged slightly below the baseline. OpenType substitution sets automatically form the logo when composing the company name.
